Refined sugar and cancer

Of course we all know that refined sugar is bad for you...but did you know that recent research indicates it causes cancer?

Fortunately, this same discovery also lays the foundation for potentially much safer cancer screening, using small amounts of sugar instead of radioactive injections.

New MRI research reveals cancer cells thrive on processed sugar

(NaturalNews) Do you have a sweet tooth? If so, your dietary habits could be significantly adding to your risk of developing cancer. New research published in the journal Nature Medicine has confirmed that processed sugar is one of the primary driving forces behind the growth and spread of cancer tumors, so much so that the future of cancer screening could rely on scanning the body for sugar accumulation.

Scientists from University College London (UCL) in the U.K. made this discovery after experimenting with a new cancer detection method that involves utilizing a unique form of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). After sensitizing an MRI scanner to look specifically for glucose in the body, it was revealed that cancer tumors, which feed off sugar, light up brightly as they contain high amounts of sugar.

"The new technique, called 'glucose chemical exchange saturation transfer' (glucoCEST), is based on the fact that tumors consume much more glucose (a type of sugar) than normal, healthy tissues in order to sustain their growth," explains a recent UCL announcement, noting that tumors appear as "bright images" on MRI scans of mice.

Traditionally, cancer screenings have involved the use of low-dose radiation injections to identify the presence of tumors, which makes sense as radiation is another known cause of cancer. The things that trigger and promote cancer development and spread, in other words, can also be used by doctors to detect it inside the body. And now sugar can officially be added to this list.

"The method uses an injection of normal sugar and could offer a cheap, safe alternative to existing methods for detecting tumors, which require the injection of radioactive material," says Dr. Simon Walker-Samuel, lead researcher of the study from the UCL Centre for Advanced Biomedical Imaging (CABI).

Interestingly, it was also noted by the study's senior author that the amount of sugar in "half a standard sized chocolate bar" is all it takes to effectively identify the presence of tumors using the glucoCEST method. This is astounding, as it suggests that even relatively low amounts of sugar have the potential to promote cancer proliferation.

Many cancer tumors respond directly to insulin produced by sugar consumption

The UCL study is hardly the only one to have identified a connection between processed sugar consumption and diseases like cancer. Other research, including that being currently being conducted by Dr. Robert H. Lustig, M.D., a Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), confirms that the bulk of chronic illnesses prevalent today are caused by sugar consumption.

You can watch a presentation from Dr. Lustig entitled Sugar: The Bitter Truth here:
http://youtube.com

As far as cancer is concerned, hormones produced by the body in response to sugar consumption also feed cancer cells. This means that every time you down a soda or eat a piece of cake, your body produces certain chemicals that tell cancer cells to not only start taking up sugar, but also to grow in size and spread.

"What we're beginning to learn is that insulin can cause adverse effects in various tissues, and a particular concern is cancer," says Dr. Lewis Cantley, head of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) at Harvard University, as quoted during an interview with CBS' 60 Minutes.

"If you happen to have a tumor that has insulin receptors on it, then it will get stimulated to take up the glucose that's in the bloodstream," he adds. "So rather than going to the fat or to the muscle, the glucose now goes into the tumor, and the tumor uses it to grow."

Love Yourself Enough to Forgive

If you truly want to transform your life from the inside out, learn the healing habit of self forgiveness.  It is truly the most powerful, revolutionary and life changing habit that you can choose to practice on a daily basis. There is nothing more effective and transformational that you can do with your time here on Earth. The energy of forgiveness will heal your life, bring kindness back into your relationships, cure you of any illness you are facing, and free you from repeating the traumatic pattern you've been in.  Sure, it may take you weeks or months to train your heart to let go, trust that this is the highest path, and choose to be happy instead of right about things.  Yet, as you repetitively fall into the forgiveness vibration, the feeling it will bring you is so liberating that you will naturally create a habit out of it.  The key is choosing to be consistently kind and gentle with yourself and everyone every day in every way.  With practice you'll attain mastery over the commanding demanding ego, and this soon equates to finding long term happiness in your relationships, financial success, and your body's physical, emotional and mental health.

The experience of forgiveness is real, and not difficult to achieve.  In fact it's as easy as a snowflake falling down from the sky.  You simply are letting go, trusting the winds of life, relaxing into your experience and knowing you will soon land in home sweet home.  When you are in this light snowflake state, you are relaxed inside and can effortlessly move out of the repetitive hard heavy thoughts your mind might be swirling in. With just a little self love, you can shift an old pattern that has been destroying your relationships for years and create something completely brand new!  So let's practice experiencing the forgiveness vibration right now, this way you'll already be better at it tomorrow!

Start with taking one long slow deep breath into your belly. Feel what is the heaviest burden or weight you're carrying inside you. Notice the energy around your heart, deep in your stomach, or weighing on your back and shoulders. Once you find the tension, give it permission to be there.  It is already there, and not going anywhere, so just accept it for what it is right now.  Now bring more and more awareness into the tension, heaviness, tightness or whatever pain you're holding inside.  Be aware of it without trying to change it.  Notice where it is exactly inside you and how long its been there.  Look to see if there is a certain time, person or place when it tends to flare up stronger. The longer you can allow for the feeling of this pain to be there, the deeper the roots of forgiveness can dig down inside and penetrate through to the core, reaching into every cell of your being.

If you believe there is nothing inside you that is seeking forgiveness, look a little deeper, use a magnifying glass and broaden your definition of forgiveness. What if forgiveness simply meant loving you?  Our childhoods are often filled with very subtle dramatic moments containing judgments about the world, ourselves and others.  We all were conditioned to be like our parents, who perhaps didn't have the luxury of having years of therapy and healing from their childhood.  So we are dealing with generations of heavy conditioning, self sabotaging thought patterns, narrow minded beliefs, and unconscious unforgiving habits which we have no idea are there. Don't be deceived for a momentum especially if you think your life is going "just fine". There is a hungry tiger in the room!  The only way you'll know the truth is by taking a deep long look inside yourself, into your past, and notice where you are not 100% at peace. Unless you are already a master at loving you, there is always going to be some crack or crevice that hasn't been filled with love. This is crack is what perpetuates our mission as human beings, giving us a purpose and reason to evolve in love on earth.
The energy of forgiveness starts with a choice.  The very moment you choose it, your energy shifts from living in the deep dungeon of self neglect, addictions and unhappiness, to the kingdom of light and love inside your heart. It is within your heart where you'll find the truth, and this will set you free.  The heart is the secret to your life, where you'll realize what real empowerment is, and how to manifest total freedom, abundance and success on all levels. It is from the heart that we can finally relax and experience where the bliss of pure being abides. By seeing forgiveness as being deeply gentle with you, everything will change.  Just know that it is an highly evolved conscious way of being that is rooted in automatically responding to others emotional inflections with gentleness, kindness, compassion and patience.  Practice this automatic response and each day will unfold in the most heavenly ways. The more quickly you can surrender to loving yourself, and choosing love over fear, the easier it becomes to slip into this healing sensation the next time drama comes flying around the corner.
If you stop to really think about it for yourself, truly what is forgiveness to you? What actually happens inside you when you choose to forgive yourself or another? How does it FEEL in your body? It's a feeling of letting go, trusting life, and surrendering to the greater good, yet how will this show up in your practical daily life?  If you're having trouble knowing where and how to start this forgiveness experience, notice of you have any yearning to feel a warm deep harmony connected with everyone, instead of an old cold, distant isolating way of feeling separate and lonely. Anytime you feel wronged by another, it's the Universe testing you to see if you'll play the game of being small, separate and cold.  No matter what they said or did to you, at some point you will need to forgive them, if you want true peace inside.  Again, no matter what was said or done to you, the bigger the argument the ego has to be right about it's case, the longer the forgiveness process will take.
There is always a deeper need inside us to be at happy, in love, in peace than be right about anything. Forgiveness is the golden key to this path.  As long as your ego is still running the show, there is always going to be some part of yourself who gets hurt by others, and is identifying with their judgments, anger or wounded feelings of pain. One could go to the extent of saying all forgiveness is self forgiveness, letting go and loving yourself.  From this perspective there truly is no "other" and we are all simply just one Being. This is perhaps the most enlightened approach to life if you can truly live it from the heart. We already are all so deeply intimately interconnected, so by forgiving yourself AS IF you were the other, you will liberate you in the end.  The other person will attain access to that healing feeling you're then radiating, making it much easier to forgive themselves.

Perhaps you (or someone you know) is stuck in an emotionally negative cycle, repeating the habit of coming down hard on yourself (or the other) with blame, criticizing, being negative, or just unkind. If this is happening for weeks, months or years, the most important question to ask is not, "why is this happening to me?" yet rather, "why is it happening for me and what can I do to transcend this vicious cycle?" The first step is to take responsibility for the experience you're creating and make a firm decision to change it. Shift your thoughts, expand your vibration and you'll change your life. Make it a priority that you are sick and tired of playing the angry/victim game and are now climbing out of this old dumpster and up the hill of happiness! A resilient decision is the main foundation for whether you will find yourself successful at shifting out of your destructive unforgiving pattern or not.

It's often the hardest step in life that is the most important one to take.  This is about taking time to feel into the deepest root system of your greatest pain, heaviest burden, or most negative belief about you and taking responsibility for creating it. This painful experience is your lifelong teacher, that may be with you until the day you leave this body.  Once you make friends with it, you will manifest something new in your life! If your mind continues to defend itself, arguing that you're not responsible for this pain, then ask it if it's willing to be free from it. As long as the mind continues to go back into the pattern of criticizing, blaming, belittling, or degrading another, then it's your responsibility to transcend the mind and see this as your life's golden opportunity for healing.
You are the one who gets to turn on your forgiveness engine each morning. From the moment you are awake, start loving you and letting go of the heavy old past self who was not "good enough".  Keep dipping in the releasing healing river of letting go, and each time you may find a new level of responsibility that you can take on.   Any hard and heavy thoughts you've entertained in the past can be freed and give you an experience of total liberation! The more often you go inside to love you and forgive yourself, the more empowered and lovable you'll feel that day. You'll be quicker to instantly reverse any negative thought or energetic flow, and find the freeing feeling of letting it all go.

Think of this as a course in training your brain to be free.  When you can continuously return to a current of positive loving thoughts about you, which sprout up from any emotional gutter of pain, the healing habit gets formed. You soon will find yourself automatically responding to life with an authentic open heart that is filled with self-love and self-forgiveness. Every time you practice shifting your attention back to loving you, the world around you (and inside you) has to respond in a more loving, healing and sensitive manner. Just remember that any time a new habit is formed, there is an adjustment stage. In the beginning it may feel uncomfortable and even "wrong" to be gentle with yourself. You may not make you or your heart a priority.  As you practice choosing to think differently about this, you'll expand the healing feelings inside and raise your vibration. If this is all super new to you and you cannot imagine not pulling out the hammer to come down hard on yourself, you may need to look deeper inside for a bigger reason to put down your weapon.
If you think you first need to find a sufficiently good reason before you can forgive yourself or another from the past, think again!  You might want to imagine what it's like to remain in this internal battle of pain your entire life and never discover what the experience of total freedom, healing or enlightenment is! Remember, the ego is a master at being right and never being completely satisfied with anything loving, easy or simple. Simply choosing to forgive because it feels lighter inside your heart is the only real reason you need. Give yourself at least 21 days to create the healing habit to reprogram yourself.  Your body will learn to automatically flip on the forgiveness switch, and soak in your own personal self-soothing pool of love! Soon you will become addicted to doing it simply because it feels soooo darn good!

Give yourself a little love...you'll be glad you did!

Stress causes the muscles in our body to tense up and contract. This may cause Headaches, back and neck pain and difficulty sleeping.  When our bodies are subject to prolonged stress it can interfere with the body’s ability to produce chemicals necessary to fight viruses etc.  As well as being linked to psychological problems.

I read about the following exercises years ago and have heard it mentioned several times lately as an aide in relaxing before meditation.

You will be working your muscles separately and then finally all at one time.
Start this exercise lying down.  When you are more familiar with the process it may be done sitting or standing.

Arms at your sides, palms facing down. Do not cross legs.

Breathe slowly and deeply for a few minutes and relax.

On an inhale, breathe in slowly through your nose and at the same time clench your left hand in a tight fist while inhaling.  Clench fairly hard.  You want to feel the muscles tighten but not cramping. Keep your fist clenched as you hold your breath for a few seconds and exhale through your mouth as you relax your fist. Now focus on the relaxation in your hand. Do this three times.  Now do the same for the right hand.  Next  use both hands at the same time. Clenching and relaxing 3 times.
Do the above with your fists bending at the wrists.

Now put  tension in the forearms. Left three times, right three times, then together three times.

Same for the biceps. Left, right then together.
Next your shoulders by trying to move the left shoulder to your left ear. Left, right and then both.  Three times each and together.

Now move to your feet.   Three times with left, then the right and then together.

Toes, next arches, then ankles, then caves, then thighs, then buttocks. Left, right then together three times.
Now the muscles of the abdomen (as in doing sit ups but do not move back), then back, next chest and then shoulders  (try to bring your shoulder blades together)  Three times each.

Tense your face by frowning, smiling whatever you can do to add tension to the face muscles.  Tense, hold, relax   three times.
Next, face shoulders and neck at the same time. Three times.

Now try to tense and relax the entire body 3 times.
Relax as much as possible.  Focus on breathing easily and slowly.

When you are ready to finish these exercises, move your body slowly and sit up.
Try to reach a deeper level of relaxation each time you do these exercises.

Healing and Curing - the difference

Curing
The focus of curing is to address the needs of the physical body and to relieve it of any discomfort, aches and pains, symptoms, crises, and illness. It has little to do with treating the hidden contributors responsible for the formation of these effects. Instead, curing views good health as the absence of symptoms and the elimination of whatever is causing the body to not function properly, even if that means removing a part of the body. This approach means compensation and removal. For example, if a person is experiencing muscle cramps, the treatment is relaxants; if pain is present, then painkillers are prescribed. If the body is burning up with a fever, curing seeks to cool it down; and if cancer is present, curing removes it. While this method certainly makes it easier for us to live physically, it doesn’t address the origin of the problem, only the effects. As a result, the perpetrators are still there and are continuing to gain strength, thus weakening the body’s ability to sustain good health. Curing looks at the how and what of illness. It views the body as a biomechanical piece of machinery, where most parts are necessary but may not be connected or interdependent on the other parts for proper functioning. It sees organs, glands, and systems and wants to understand how they break down and what can be replaced or repaired to eliminate the problem. It doesn’t take the mental state into consideration.

Healing
Healing, on the other hand, begins with the soul and seeks to identify, transform, and remove any obstacles preventing it, the mind, and the body from working together in a unified manner. The objective is to make us better than we were before we became ill and to re-establish "wholeness" so that we can experience good health. It involves creating a harmonious internal space so we can explore the hidden contributors behind illness at a deeper level. We get in touch with who we are and are allowed to see just how powerful we can be if we free ourselves from the limitations of our conditioning. Healing views health as being physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually in balance.
Healing deals with the source of illness and requires us to dig into our psychological coffers so we can uncover unhealthy thoughts, emotions, attitudes, beliefs, and core themes responsible for the formation of illness. It’s about reinventing our self-perception and restructuring our lifestyle so that it’s conducive to good health. We remove the sources responsible for the disconnection between the soul, mind, and body. Healing begins with awareness and ends with change. It asks us to release the emotional hurts buried deep inside and let go of the identities we’ve created around those hurts. The goal of healing isn’t fixing, it’s creating—creating a healthy self-perception, healthy thoughts, and healthy relationships.

Using EFT to Deal with Grief

When someone passes on, the loved ones often ask: Can I and should I tap on grief? Is grief not a necessary feeling, an important part of life and of honoring the person we lost? Is it truly appropriate – and possible – to tap on it and let it go?
As so many times in life, there are several answers to the question, as it is not just one question.
As you might know by now, EFT balances our energy field in relation to negative emotions, negative beliefs and even many physical symptoms (as they have mental emotional stress as a cause). Being in balance is always important. Being in balance is the basis of a good and healthy life, and grief should not make the state of balance undone permanently.
There is a part of grief, that has truly to do with the loved one: Missing the person or animal, remembering all the wonderful  things about him or her. Grief is a very powerful and honorable feeling that allows us to be honest with our feelings and our love and appreciation. Grief allows us to find closure.
But there is  a part of grief that has to do with something else:

A Change of Heart Changes Everything - HeartMath

Remember the Care Bear stare? One organization within the scientific community has pioneered a real life version. The HeartMath Institute is a science based not-for-profit whose mission is to facilitate a fundamental shift in health, well-being and consciousness via the heart. Peer-reviewed studies have proven their methods to be effective at increasing health, well-being and caring cooperation on a global scale. Science has now come full circle filling in the gaps that traditional spirituality and religion have left empty.

In order to find peace in the world around us, we must first find peace within ourselves. The Institute of HearthMath has created methods and technologies called the HeartMath System with an extensive research library, tutorials, videos and yes even mobile apps. Their most popular app is called Inner Balance. The app is free and requires a heart-rate variability sensor, which can be purchased on their website for $99. This sophisticated sensor works with iOS devices and monitors your inner emotional state and provides training to help guide you to deeper states of inner peace. They’ve also created an app called GPS for the Soul a collaboration with the Huffington Post. This app provides a lighter version of the HRV monitor at no additional cost.
Another important program spearheaded by the HeartMath Institute is the Global Coherence Initiative, which is a synchronized group of active members that work to positively influence the world. These programs combine to help us achieve sustainable peace through heart-based living. Practicing these techniques creates a harmonious connectedness between all the parts of our environment.

Feeling compassion, care, love and similar emotions has a powerful effect on both the individual and the greater population. Scientists at the HeartMath Institute now believe that a feedback loop exists between the planet and all living creatures. This is called the people-planet connection. The earth’s magnetic resonances vibrate at the same frequency as human heart rhythms and brainwaves. This field acts in synergy with the emotional energy that is fed into it. As the saying goes, “Garbage in garbage out.” That is why it is so important to be mindful of the emotions we choose to send into this field. It is believed that a relatively small number of participants, feeling positive emotions, are needed to reach a critical mass that would have a profound influence on the greater population subconsciously.

Adding EFT to your Meditation

Meditation Made Very Simple

Dear EFT Community,
Mediation produces an enormous number of positive effects on the mind and body. A physician friend of mine, Robert Dozor, MD, co-founder of the Integrative Medical Clinic of Santa Rosa, and co-author of the book The Heart of Healing, says, "If meditation were a drug, failure to prescribe it would constitute medical malpractice.” When I emerge from meditation, colors seem brighter, my work load seems lighter, and my levels of optimism and enthusiasm rise. I'm literally addicted to the positive brain chemistry that meditation produces. A psychiatrist I worked with many years ago, Phil Kavanaugh MD, was taking drug addicts and re-directing their addictive tendencies toward meditation; he believed that meditation can make us "feel-good" addicts! Meditation produces a rush of endorphins and neurotransmitters like serotonin. It works beautifully with EFT.
I combine them both, along with the "best practices" from neurofeedback, HeartMath, Transpersonal Psychology, and Law of Attraction, in a powerful new program called WEL or Whole Energy Lifestyle. The form of meditation used in WEL is so simple that even people who've failed at every meditation program they've tried before are meditating successfully in less than five minutes. If you're a newcomer to meditation, or if you've tried it without success in the past, try this simple formula to get you started, and unlock the benefits of combining EFT and meditation.
-Dawson Church

Steps for Whole Energy Lifestyle (WEL) Meditation
1. As soon as you wake up, sit upright in a quiet space where you will be undisturbed for 15-30 minutes.
2. Tap through the EFT points in any order, while holding the intention that you are in a calm and peaceful state, and nothing matters except the gift of undisturbed time you are now giving yourself. This is time just for you. Let all your preoccupations vanish, and allow yourself to be fully present for the next while.
3. Let your tongue rest loosely on the floor of your mouth.
4. Picture a big empty space behind your eyes.
5. Breathe slowly, for 6 seconds per outbreath, and 6 seconds per inbreath. Count to 6 silently each time you breathe in, and each time you breathe out.
6. If thoughts arise in your mind, just let them go. Watch them drift like clouds across the sky, without attachment.
7. If feelings arise in the body, such as aches or pains, just observe them. You don't have to do anything about them. Keep your attention focused on your breath, counting 6 seconds in, and 6 seconds out.
Do this every day for a week, and you'll notice a difference in how you feel during the rest of the day. Do this every day for a month, and you'll be hooked. It only requires 15 minutes, though you may want to gradually increase your time frame to 30 or 45 minutes.
